A flat chastity cage compresses the penis into the body. The result is the lowest profile of any cage design, which is the reason some people search for it. The trade is practical: with the penis held flat, the wearer must sit to urinate. Cleaning can be more of a challenge as it will not be as open as most steel cages that have length.
Every chastity cage has the same skeleton: a base ring behind the testicles, a cage in front, a gap between them that traps the testicles out so the device can’t be removed. What differs is the shape of the cage.
A standard cage carries the flaccid penis forward and slightly down, roughly the way it hangs on its own. A flat cage doesn’t. It holds the penis flat against the body, so the front of the device is shallow rather than a projecting tube. Seen from the side, it’s a few millimeters of steel instead of an inch or two of cage. That’s the design in one sentence: same trap, penis held flat.
The physics of erection are the same. The cage doesn’t prevent an erection from starting; it just doesn’t allow the penis to grow. In a flat cage that pressure is directed down against the body rather than forward, which most wearers find no worse and some find less noticeable.
Concealment. This is the reason. A well-fitted flat cage disappears under fitted trousers, gym shorts, and swimwear in a way a forward-pointing cage can’t. If your daily wear is close-cut, or your work involves changing rooms, the flat profile settles the “will it show” question more completely than any other design. Movement. Because the cage sits close to the body it doesn’t swing, doesn’t catch on clothing, and doesn’t shift much when you sit. Wearers who’ve had a standard cage bump into things appreciate that.
Sensation. Some wearers and Keyholders prefer the flat position for the sensation during an attempted erection; the pressure is more diffuse against the body. Many clients prefer a belt to continually hold the cage in position. The Base Ring Chain Belt or the Base Ring Mouse Ears is the perfect match for this.
We told the flat-cage story in our guide to every cage type and the one-line William made sure appeared twice is this: with a flat cage, the wearer must sit to urinate. The penis is compressed back and not allowed any room. There’s no technique that changes that. If sitting to urinate at work, in public restrooms, and at 3 a.m. is a deal-breaker, the flat design isn’t for you, and no amount of custom fitting alters it.
Beyond that:
The two sizes don’t change: base ring inside diameter and gap. So let’s look at the two sizes that do change. The easiest is length. The length is easy because there is very little length to a flat cage and you simply have no choice. Cage diameter is where it gets a little trickier. As the penis gets compressed it will get wider. So, the size depends on your normal diameter then as it compresses it will gain at least one size. So, if your normal inside diameter for a standard cage is 32 mm (1 1/4″) then you may look at going to the 35 mm (1 3/8″). The plastic sizing rings will still help you with the base ring size but it will not be as helpful with the flat front cages for the cage diameter.
The adjustability rules also apply: base ring diameter and gap can adjust after delivery; the cage inside diameter and length are permanent.
The best add-on to a flat front cage is the Base Ring Chain Belt or the Base Ring Mouse Ears. The wearer can secure the device at the top so that there is no chance of cheating. The Base ring chain belt works with either a security tag (5 tags are issued with the Chain belt order). Or with a small lock (not provided). The result is a cage that can’t be detected and secured to prevent pullout. This is a must have for Mistresses with sissies.
